Which phones work with which smart glasses

Two very different things get sold as smart glasses, and "works with iPhone" means something different for each. AI glasses such as Ray-Ban Meta or Even G2 pair over Bluetooth with a companion app, so the question is whether the app runs on your phone's OS version. Wired display glasses from XREAL, VITURE or RayNeo are a private monitor on a cable, so the question is whether your phone's USB-C port sends out video. A phone can pass one test and fail the other. This page explains both, then points you to the iPhone and Android pages for the per-model detail.

App-paired glasses need a supported OS version

Meta's glasses all use the Meta AI app. Its App Store listing asks for iOS 17.2 or later, while the Ray-Ban and Oakley FAQs still say iOS 14.4 and Android 10, with location services switched on for Android. Trust the App Store figure: it is newer and it is what the store enforces. You also need a Meta account. Even Realities lists iOS 16 or Android 11 for its app, which connects over Bluetooth LE. Once paired, these glasses lean on the phone for internet: Even says its translation, navigation and AI features need the phone online. Setup steps are on our pairing guide.

Display glasses need video out over USB-C

XREAL's One series, VITURE's glasses and Rokid Max 2 have no Bluetooth link to the phone for video. The cable carries a DisplayPort signal (DisplayPort Alt Mode) and, for models with no battery, power as well. XREAL says the port must output DisplayPort video and supply 5V/1A. USB-C iPhones from the 15 onward qualify, although XREAL's guide excludes the iPhone 16e. Lightning iPhones cannot connect. On Android it depends on the phone, not the Android version. See how DP Alt Mode works and our XREAL connection notes.

Headsets and the next wave

Samsung's Galaxy XR headset uses a Galaxy XR app for setup, and Samsung documents no iPhone companion support. Apple Vision Pro is standalone. For the announced Android XR eyewear from Samsung, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, Google says the glasses pair with both Android and iOS phones, but Samsung adds that some features may require a compatible Galaxy device, and gesture control needs a Galaxy Watch9. Expect the iPhone experience to be narrower there until the makers publish a feature list.

How to check your own phone

For AI glasses, open the companion app's store listing on your phone and check the minimum version it shows. For wired glasses, look up your phone's spec sheet for DisplayPort output over USB-C, or check whether it appears on the glasses maker's list. If a phone lacks video output, XREAL's Beam Pro can drive its glasses without a phone. If the glasses stay dark on a phone that should work, our no-video fix covers the usual causes. Test with the cable that came in the box first.

Questions people ask

Do Meta glasses work with both iPhone and Android?

Yes. The Meta AI app runs on both. The App Store listing currently asks for iOS 17.2 or later; Meta's retail FAQs give Android 10 or later with location services on.

Will XREAL or VITURE glasses work with an older iPhone?

Not with a Lightning iPhone. These glasses need a USB-C port that outputs DisplayPort video, which on iPhone means the iPhone 15 or later; XREAL's guide excludes the iPhone 16e.

Do wired display glasses need an app?

Usually not for basic viewing. XREAL describes its Link app as optional, and its glasses show the phone's screen as soon as the cable is connected to a supported port.
