Oakley Meta Vanguard
Oakley Meta Vanguard is a pair of AI glasses with a camera and open-ear speakers from Meta with Oakley. It starts at $499 in the United States (launch price). Meta sells or supports it in 25 countries. Oakley Meta Vanguard went on sale in October 2025.
Vanguard is the one Meta frame built for training. It is a wraparound Oakley shield with a centered 12 MP camera and a 122-degree wide lens, so footage points where you are heading. Meta rates it IP67, its most water-resistant frame, and says the open-ear speakers are 6 dB louder than HSTN, with five mics tuned for wind. Paired with a compatible Garmin, you can ask Meta AI for live stats, and Strava users can overlay metrics on clips. The camera adds slow motion, hyperlapse and adjustable stabilization. This is for cyclists, runners and outdoor athletes who want a camera and coach in one frame. See best smart glasses for running and cycling.
Good fit
Cyclists, runners and other outdoor athletes who train in wind, sweat or rain and already use Garmin or Strava.
Look elsewhere if
Skip it for office or everyday wear, where the shield looks out of place; Oakley Meta HSTN is the daily Oakley frame.

Limitations to know before you buy
- Prescription lenses are only available through participating certified retailers, not on Meta.com, and the range is not published.
- The Garmin and Strava links need those accounts connected in the Meta AI app, and Meta's article mentions English in the US and Canada.
- Continuous music playback is quoted at six hours, below the nine-hour headline.
- The status LED sits in your peripheral vision, which some riders may notice.
- Oakley's FAQ wrongly lists IPX4 for all models; Meta and the product page say IP67 for Vanguard.
- A full charge takes about 75 minutes, per Meta's published figures, so top it up before a long session.
- Fit relies on Oakley's Three-Point Fit and three replaceable nose pads, including low- and high-bridge options. Try them with your own helmet before a long ride.

Questions people ask
Why is the Vanguard camera in the middle?
Meta placed a centered 12 MP camera with a 122-degree lens on Vanguard, so footage is aligned with where your head points. That framing suits ride and run clips.
What can Vanguard do with a Garmin watch?
Meta says that with a compatible Garmin you can ask Meta AI for stats in real time, and the glasses can capture clips automatically at milestones. Link Garmin in the Meta AI app first.
What triggers Garmin autocapture on Vanguard?
Meta says Vanguard can record clips by itself when you hit distance milestones or when your heart rate, speed or elevation climbs, using data from a linked Garmin device.
Does Vanguard fit under a cycling helmet?
Meta says the frame is designed to work with cycling helmets and hats, and its PRIZM lenses are meant to block sun, wind and dust. Helmet shapes differ, so check the pair with yours.
How do Strava overlays work on Vanguard?
In the Meta AI app you can lay your performance metrics over Vanguard photos and videos as graphics, then share them straight to your Strava community. A linked Strava account is needed.
How much does Oakley Meta Vanguard cost?
$499 in the United States, ¥96,580 in Japan, per Meta's list prices.
Which countries is Oakley Meta Vanguard sold in?
Meta lists 25 countries, shown in the section above. Bought elsewhere, it may work, but features and support can be missing.
Can I get Oakley Meta Vanguard with prescription lenses?
Yes. Prescription lenses through participating certified retailers only; not orderable on Meta.com. Range not published.
Does Oakley Meta Vanguard work with iPhone and Android?
It pairs through the Meta AI app. iPhone needs iOS 17.2 or later; Android needs Android 10 or later.
Is Oakley Meta Vanguard waterproof?
No. It is rated IP67, which covers splashes and sweat, not swimming or submersion.
