Charging case shows a red or pulsing red LED (charging error)
Applies to Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3), Meta Glasses (Adventurer, Fury, Starfire, Capri, Nova), Ray-Ban Meta Optics (Gen 2), Oakley Meta Vanguard, Meta Ray-Ban Display, Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2), Oakley Meta HSTN, Ray-Ban Meta Audio, Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 1) and Ray-Ban Stories.
A red or pulsing red light on the charging case is the case refusing to charge, not a dead battery. Meta lists three triggers: the case is too hot, it has detected liquid on the contacts, or the cable or adapter is not compatible. Each has a simple response. Heat means a cooler spot and some patience. Liquid means drying the nose-bridge contacts before docking again. A charger problem means trying a different USB-C cable or power adapter.
Official steps
- Too hot: move the case to a cooler place and wait.
- Liquid detected: undock, clean and dry the nose-bridge contacts, then redock.
- Incompatible charger: try a different USB-C cable or power adapter.

Still not working?
A red light that keeps coming back in a cool, dry room with a known-good charger points to hardware. Contact Meta or Ray-Ban support and describe the light pattern, solid or pulsing, and what you already tried. Keep the serial number and receipt handy for the claim, and do not try to open the case.
Questions people ask
Is a red case light dangerous?
Meta describes it as a charging error caused by heat, liquid or an incompatible charger. Follow the steps for the cause, and stop using the case if it is damaged.
What do the other charging case lights mean?
Ray-Ban's FAQ lists solid green for fully charged glasses, solid orange for glasses that are charging, and blinking red for a charging error.
Is a case that won't stop showing red covered by warranty?
Ray-Ban's warranty runs one year from purchase, or two years if you bought in the EU or EFTA. A claim needs the glasses' serial number and proof of purchase.
