Look and ask (Meta AI vision)
Uses the glasses camera so Meta AI can answer questions about what you are looking at (landmarks, plants, menus, text).[1]
Look and ask lets Meta AI use the glasses camera to answer a question about what you are facing: a landmark, a plant, a menu in another language, the label on a jar. You look at the thing and ask. On Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Meta Glasses the answer is spoken; on Meta Ray-Ban Display it can also appear in the lens, including step-by-step how-tos. It needs a camera, so Ray-Ban Meta Audio cannot do it. For a running conversation about your surroundings, see Live AI.
Where it works
Ten of the biggest markets are shown. A tick needs an official statement for that country; "Not confirmed" means the maker hasn't said either way. For any other country use the lookup.
confirmed · maker says not available · not confirmed · announced · model not sold there
- Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3): confirmed in 20 countries; languages: English.
- Meta Glasses (Adventurer, Fury, Starfire, Capri, Nova): confirmed in 15 countries; languages: English.
- Ray-Ban Meta Optics (Gen 2): confirmed in 20 countries; languages: English.
- Oakley Meta Vanguard: confirmed in 16 countries; languages: English.
- Meta Ray-Ban Display: confirmed in 6 countries.

How it works
Say "Hey Meta, look and tell me what this is", or ask any question about what you can see. The glasses take a frame from the camera, send it with your question to Meta AI through your phone, and play the answer. The capture LED lights while the camera is in use, which tells people nearby. Meta first offered vision questions in English in the US, Canada and Australia, added the UK in April 2025 and then rolled it out to the EU countries where the glasses are sold. Each question is a single exchange: you say "Hey Meta" again for the next one, unless you are in a Live AI session.
Turn it on
- Look at the object or text.
- Say "Hey Meta, look and tell me what this is" (or ask any question about what you see).
- Answers are spoken; on Meta Ray-Ban Display they are also shown in the lens.
Tips
- Hold your head still for a moment when you ask; the answer depends on what the camera frames.
- Be specific. "What does this sign say about parking on Sunday" gets a more useful reply than "what's this".
- On Display, ask for steps when you want a how-to you can read rather than hear.
Limits
- Meta's language support for vision questions has been English-first; other Meta AI languages may not cover it.
- Needs the phone's data connection.
- Answers are from Meta AI and can be wrong; check anything that matters, such as allergens or medication labels.
Questions people ask
Does look and ask save a photo?
The camera is used to answer your question and the LED lights while it does. Meta's capture settings and history live in the Meta AI app, where you can review them.
Can it read text aloud?
Yes. Meta lists text, menus and signs among the things you can ask about, and the answer is read back to you.
