Messages shown on the display
Read incoming WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and phone messages in the lens and reply by voice or Neural Band handwriting.[1]
Meta Ray-Ban Display puts incoming messages in its right-lens display, so you can read a text without taking out your phone. Meta describes it as showing short texts, WhatsApp messages and Reels your friends share. Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram and your phone's own messages connect through the Meta AI app, the same as for calls. Replies go back by voice dictation or, with the Meta Neural Band, by tracing letters with a finger. This is specific to Display; camera glasses without a screen read messages aloud instead, covered under messaging.
Where it works
Ten of the biggest markets are shown. A tick needs an official statement for that country; "Not confirmed" means the maker hasn't said either way. For any other country use the lookup.

How it works
Once your apps are linked, a new message appears as a card in the lens. You glance at it, then dismiss it or open the thread. To reply, you can dictate, or open the reply box and choose Write to use neural handwriting: the Neural Band reads the muscle signals in your wrist as you print letters on a table or your leg, and the text appears in the composer. Meta's update in May 2026 extended handwriting to Instagram and phone message notifications. Meta also says mirroring of other phone notifications to the display is coming, but it has not shipped in the material we track. For what else the screen shows, see what the display shows.
Turn it on
- Connect messaging apps in the Meta AI app.
- When a message arrives, glance at it and reply by voice or handwriting.
Tips
- Link each app separately in the Meta AI app. Only connected apps send messages to the lens.
- Print letters rather than writing cursive when you reply by handwriting; Meta's steps ask for that.
- Use voice replies when your hands are busy and handwriting when speaking aloud would be awkward.
- When you can't look at the lens, the glasses can also announce new messages and read them aloud, per Ray-Ban's Display FAQ.
Limits
- Neural handwriting is available in English and only in some countries, per Meta.
- General phone notification mirroring is announced as coming, not available.
Questions people ask
Which lens shows the messages?
Meta Ray-Ban Display has a single full-color display in the right lens. Messages, captions and maps all appear there.
Can I reply without the Neural Band?
Yes, by voice. The Neural Band adds handwriting and gesture control, but dictation works through the glasses microphones.
Can I take video calls on Display?
Yes. Meta says you can take live video calls from WhatsApp and Messenger and show the other person what you are seeing through the glasses.
