Neural handwriting
Write letters with a finger on any surface while wearing the Meta Neural Band; the band turns the motion into text for messages.[1]
Neural handwriting lets you reply to messages on Meta Ray-Ban Display by tracing letters with your index finger on any surface: a table, your leg, the arm of a chair. The Meta Neural Band on your wrist reads the muscle activity and turns it into text in the lens. It is a quiet alternative to dictating a reply in a meeting or on a train. It needs both the Display glasses and the Band, and Meta offers it in English in a short list of countries. For how the Band senses movement, see how the Neural Band reads gestures.
Where it works
Ten of the biggest markets are shown. A tick needs an official statement for that country; "Not confirmed" means the maker hasn't said either way. For any other country use the lookup.

How it works
Open a thread on the glasses, swipe down to the reply box and tap Write. Then print letters with your index finger as if writing on a touchscreen. Meta asks for printed letters, not cursive. As you write, autocomplete suggestions appear in a lighter gray in the composer; swipe your thumb right to accept one. A single tap of your index finger opens a context menu with emojis and punctuation. Meta's steps require WhatsApp or Messenger to be connected in the Meta AI app, and both the glasses and the Band to be updated. A May 2026 Band update extended handwriting to Instagram and phone message notifications. Steps are on how to use neural handwriting.
Turn it on
- Open a reply in a supported messaging app on the glasses.
- Trace letters with your index finger on a table, your leg or any surface; the text appears in the lens.
Tips
- Write on a firm surface at first; it is easier to keep letter shapes consistent.
- Lean on autocomplete for longer words instead of finishing every letter.
- Update the Band and glasses together if the Write button does not appear.
Limits
- English only, in the countries Meta lists.
- Requires both Meta Ray-Ban Display and the Meta Neural Band.
