Live translation
Translates a face-to-face conversation in real time: you hear the translation through the speakers (or read it in the lens on Display) and the other person can read your side in the Meta AI app.[1]
Live translation lets two people who do not share a language hold a conversation. On Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Meta Glasses you hear the other person in your language through the speakers, and they read your side as text in the Meta AI app on your phone. On Meta Ray-Ban Display the translation also appears in the lens. The screenless models support the widest set of languages; Display currently supports English, French, Italian and Spanish. If text on the lens matters more than audio, compare Even Realities' Translate, or browse glasses for translation.

How it works
In the Meta AI app, open Translate, pick the language you speak and the language they speak, and tap Start. You can also say "Hey Meta, start live translation" and confirm the languages in the app. The glasses listen, translate and speak the result. Meta says some language pairs run offline once their pack is downloaded, covered under offline live translation; many others need Wi-Fi or mobile data. A June 2026 update added 14 languages that need a connection, and Meta notes that Chinese means Mandarin. To stop, say "Hey Meta, stop live translation", tap and hold the touchpad, or tap Stop in the app. Official steps are on how to use live translation.
Turn it on
- Download the language pair in the Meta AI app (Device settings > Translate) so it also works offline.
- Say "Hey Meta, start live translation" or start it from the app.
- Say "Hey Meta, stop live translation" when done.
Tips
- Hand the other person your phone or put it on the table so they can read your side.
- Download the packs you need before a trip, so translation still works without data.
- Update the glasses and the Meta AI app first; Meta lists both as requirements.
Limits
- Meta supports specific language pairs, not every combination.
- Meta Ray-Ban Display currently supports English, French, Italian and Spanish; Meta says more are rolling out.
- Languages outside the offline set need Wi-Fi or a mobile connection.
Questions people ask
Does the other person need Meta glasses?
No. They read your side of the conversation in the Meta AI app on your phone, or listen if you play it aloud.
Do Google's Android XR glasses translate too?
Google has announced live translation for its Android XR eyewear, with translated audio that matches the speaker's tone and pitch. Those glasses are announced, not on sale, and the language list is not published.
