Smart glasses that work with Android
On Android the app side is simple and the hardware side is not. Meta's app asks for Android 10, Even's asks for Android 11, and both run on most phones sold in the last few years. Wired display glasses are another matter: they need a USB-C port that outputs DisplayPort video, and that depends on the phone model, not the Android version. Samsung Galaxy S phones are on XREAL's list; plenty of mid-range phones are not. Samsung also keeps some features for its own phones and watches. This page covers each family and what to check. Our iPhone page covers the other side.

Meta glasses on Android
The Meta AI app needs Android 10 or later, and Meta's FAQs add that location services must be on. You also need a Meta account. That covers every current model, including Meta Glasses, Oakley Meta Vanguard and Meta Ray-Ban Display. One Android-specific step appears in Meta's help: if firmware updates or photo imports keep failing, force-stop the Meta AI app in the phone's settings and try again. Our import fix has the full sequence. Pairing itself uses the same steps on Android and iPhone.
Even Realities on Android
Even's app needs Android 11 or later and Bluetooth LE. Even says compatibility with foldable phones is still in progress, so owners of a Galaxy Z or Pixel Fold should read Even's support notes before buying an Even G2. As on iPhone, translation, navigation and Even AI need the phone to be online. Notifications arrive over Bluetooth. If the app can't see the glasses, start with Even's discovery steps. Even gives one compatibility list for both platforms, and it doesn't list platform-specific features.
USB-C video depends on the phone
XREAL names the Galaxy S series and "Android phones with DP output" for direct connection, and it supports Android desktop modes such as Samsung DeX. Its list does not name Google Pixel. Android Authority reported in March 2026 that Pixel 8 and newer support USB-C DisplayPort output, but that is press, not XREAL. If your phone has no video output, the glasses will light up with nothing to show. XREAL's optional Link app lists Android 10. The Beam Pro, which runs Android 14, can stand in for the phone.
Galaxy-only features
Samsung ties several features to its own hardware. The Galaxy XR headset sets up through the Galaxy XR app, and Easy Setup copies accounts and Wi-Fi from a Galaxy phone. Call continuity needs a phone on One UI 6.1 or later, on the same Wi-Fi and Samsung account. For the announced Samsung eyewear, Samsung says some features may need a compatible Galaxy device, and gesture control needs a Galaxy Watch9. The exact list of Galaxy-only features hasn't been published.
Questions people ask
Do Meta glasses need a specific Android phone?
No particular brand. Meta's requirement is Android 10 or later with location services on, plus the Meta AI app and a Meta account.
Will XREAL glasses work with a Google Pixel?
XREAL's official list does not name Pixel. Android Authority reported that Pixel 8 and newer support USB-C DisplayPort output, which is what the glasses need, but XREAL has not confirmed it.
Are Samsung's new glasses Galaxy-only?
No. Google says they pair with Android and iOS. Samsung says some features may require a compatible Galaxy device, and gesture control needs a Galaxy Watch9.
