Wired USB-C display (DP Alt Mode)
The glasses act as a private external monitor for a device that outputs DisplayPort video over USB-C.[1]
XREAL's display glasses are wired monitors you wear. Plug them into a phone, laptop, tablet or handheld that sends DisplayPort video over USB-C, known as DP Alt Mode, and the screen appears as a large virtual display in front of you. There is no app to install for basic use. That covers the One, One Pro, 1S, Air 2, Air 2 Pro, xbx a01+ and ROG XREAL R1. It suits travelers and gamers who want a big private screen. If your device lacks DP Alt Mode, an adapter is the usual answer. Compare models on glasses for movies and gaming.

How it works
The glasses have no battery of their own; the connected device powers them through the same cable. XREAL says the port must support DP video output and supply 5V/1A. Plug the USB-C cable into the glasses, then into the device, and the glasses switch on and show its screen. XREAL lists Steam Deck, ROG Ally, USB-C iPhones, Galaxy S phones, iPad Pro, Windows laptops and MacBook Pro as direct connections. Consoles with HDMI, such as Switch, PlayStation and Xbox, need an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter that also powers the glasses. The ROG XREAL R1 can also go through the ROG Control Dock.
Turn it on
- Check that your device's USB-C port supports DisplayPort video output (DP Alt Mode).
- Plug the glasses' USB-C cable into the glasses, then into the device.
- The glasses power on by themselves and show the device's screen; for HDMI-only devices, use an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter that also powers the glasses.
Tips
- Check your device's USB-C port spec for DisplayPort output before you buy; charging-only ports will not show a picture.
- Expect the glasses to draw from your phone or laptop battery while connected.
- Use an HDMI adapter that supplies power for consoles; XREAL calls this out for HDMI-only devices.
Limits
- Devices without DP Alt Mode need an adapter.
- No built-in battery, so the source device must supply power.
- Head tracking and dimming vary by model; the xbx a01+ has neither, per press reports.
Questions people ask
Do XREAL glasses work with an iPhone?
USB-C iPhones are on XREAL's direct-connection list. Phone support depends on the port supporting DisplayPort output; see XREAL compatibility.
Can I connect a Nintendo Switch?
Yes, with an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter that also powers the glasses, per XREAL.
