Live captions (Display)
Shows a live transcript of the person you are talking to, or of a call, in the Meta Ray-Ban Display lens.[1]
Live captions turn the speech directed at you into text in the Meta Ray-Ban Display lens. It suits people who are hard of hearing, anyone in a loud room, and listeners following a fast talker. A related option captions the other person on phone, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger calls. Both are English only, and Meta states no country restriction for the conversation version. Captions need the display, so they are not available on screenless models such as Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2. For translated captions, see live translation.
Where it works
Ten of the biggest markets are shown. A tick needs an official statement for that country; "Not confirmed" means the maker hasn't said either way. For any other country use the lookup.

How it works
The glasses microphones pick up speech and the transcript scrolls in the lens. From the app launcher, swipe down and select Captions, then Captions again. You can also start from the Meta AI app under Glasses, or say "Hey Meta, start captions". The first time, the Meta AI app asks you to download the caption language. To stop, say "Hey Meta, stop live captions", tap your middle finger on your thumb with the Meta Neural Band, tap three fingers on the touchpad, or tap Stop in the app. Meta's launch material describes captions as aimed at speech directed at you, not a whole room. The official steps are on how to use live captions.
Turn it on
- On the glasses: open the app launcher, swipe down, select Captions, then Captions again.
- Or in the Meta AI app: tap the glasses icon > Captions > Start, or say "Hey Meta, start captions".
- Say "Hey Meta, stop live captions" to stop.
Tips
- Download the caption language at home over Wi-Fi before you need it.
- Learn the three-finger touchpad tap as a backup stop if you are not wearing the Neural Band.
- Turn on call captions too if you take calls in noisy places.
Limits
- English only, for both conversation and call captions, per Meta.
- Display only. Screenless Meta glasses cannot show captions.
