Glasses shut down frequently

Applies to XREAL 1S, XREAL One and XREAL One Pro.

XREAL's guidance for One series glasses that shut down repeatedly is a single step: install the latest firmware from XREAL's update page. The update runs from a computer, or automatically through Beam Pro if you have one. Since the glasses have no battery and run on the connected device's power, also check that the source device is charged and not in a power-saving mode. XREAL also says the glasses turn off once the cable is unplugged, so a loose USB-C plug or a worn cable can look exactly like a random shutdown. Reseat both ends and try a second cable before blaming the glasses.

Official steps

  1. Go to https://www.xreal.com/ota and install the latest firmware for your glasses.

Still not working?

If shutdowns continue on the newest firmware, try another source device and cable, then contact XREAL support. Note the firmware version, the source device and cable, and roughly how long the glasses run before they shut down. See how to update XREAL firmware. XREAL's warranty lasts one year from delivery, and a claim needs the purchase order and the glasses' serial number.

Questions people ask

Do XREAL One glasses have a battery?

No. XREAL's One series glasses draw power from the device they are connected to.

Can a loose cable cause shutdowns?

Yes. XREAL says the glasses take power from the connected device and turn off once the cable is unplugged, so any break in the connection switches them off.

How long does the firmware update take?

XREAL says about five minutes on a Windows or Mac computer using xreal.com/ota.

What does XREAL need for a warranty claim?

Your purchase order, the serial number of the glasses, and the original invoice or receipt. The warranty covers one year from delivery.

How much power does the source need to supply?

XREAL's connection guide says the device's USB-C port must provide 5V/1A to the glasses. A port that cannot hold that may cut out.
