Screen doesn't wake or turn on

Applies to Galaxy XR.

A Galaxy XR that stays black usually has one of three things wrong in Samsung's guide. The proximity sensor that detects your face may be covered or dirty, so the headset thinks nobody is wearing it. The cable between the headset and battery pack may not be fully seated; Samsung says to reconnect it until it clicks. Or the pack itself is flat or needs a reset. Holding the Top button powers the headset on once those are sorted.

Official steps

  1. Remove the headset and make sure the proximity sensor isn't covered; wipe it with a microfiber cloth
  2. Press the Top button (hold to power on)
  3. Disconnect the power cable from headset and battery pack
  4. Charge the battery pack and confirm the indicator lights
  5. Reconnect the cable firmly until it clicks
  6. If still unresponsive, hold the battery level button 7+ seconds to reset the pack and retry

Steps from the maker's support pages.[1]

Still not working?

If the screen still does not wake with a charged pack and a firmly connected cable, contact Samsung Support. Mention whether the battery indicator lights, whether you hear sound, and whether a pack reset changed anything. That narrows it to the pack, cable or headset.

Questions people ask

Why does the headset screen stay off when I hold it?

The proximity sensor turns the display on when it detects you wearing it. Make sure it isn't covered and wipe it with a microfiber cloth.

How do I know the battery pack is charging?

Samsung says to connect the USB-C cable from the pack to a wall adapter and check that the battery status indicator lights up.

The cable looks connected. Could it still be the problem?

Yes. Samsung says to push the cable down onto the headset's power connector until it clicks into place. A cable that has not clicked can look seated and still pass no power.
