Battery pack won't charge or turn on

Applies to Galaxy XR.

The Galaxy XR headset runs from a separate battery pack, so a headset that seems dead may be a pack problem. Samsung's checklist begins with a look for damage to the pack, cable and charger, then the battery-level button, whose light tells you the state: red for charging or low, green for full, flashing red for disabled and nothing for not charging. A long press resets the pack. A fully drained pack can take several minutes before its light appears.

Official steps

  1. Inspect the battery pack, cables and charger for damage
  2. Press the battery level button and read the indicator (red = charging/low, green = full, flashing red = disabled, none = not charging)
  3. Reset the battery: press and hold the battery level button for more than 7 seconds
  4. Charge with the USB-C cable and a wall charger; allow up to 10 minutes for the light if fully depleted
  5. If still not charging, contact Samsung Support

Still not working?

If the pack still will not charge on a wall charger with Samsung's USB-C cable, contact Samsung Support. Have the headset's serial number and proof of purchase ready, and describe what the battery indicator shows. Do not keep charging a pack that is swollen, cracked or hot.

Questions people ask

What does a flashing red light on the pack mean?

Samsung lists flashing red as charging disabled or reduced battery. Try the reset by holding the battery level button, then charge again.

Which charger should I use for the Galaxy XR battery pack?

Samsung says to use only Samsung-approved chargers and cables designed for the pack, and its charging steps use a wall charger.

Can water damage the battery pack?

Yes. Samsung says the pack and other charging parts are not impervious to water damage in any situation, and asks you to check for liquid damage before charging.
