Eye aiming inaccurate after setup or after adding prescription inserts

Applies to Galaxy XR.

Eye aiming on Galaxy XR depends on a calibration that assumes a certain distance between your eyes and the displays. Adding prescription inserts, or wearing the headset differently from setup day, changes that geometry, and the cursor drifts. Samsung's fix has two parts: run eye calibration again from the Inputs settings, and use the forehead cushion adjusters to set the eye-to-display distance. Do both after any change to inserts. Calibration is personal, too: Samsung says it is customized to your eyes, so it must be repeated when someone else uses the headset.

Official steps

  1. Run Settings > Inputs > Eye calibration again
  2. Use the forehead cushion adjusters to correct eye-to-display distance

Still not working?

If aiming is still inaccurate after recalibrating with the inserts fitted, contact Samsung Support. Note the insert type, where you bought them and when, since prescription inserts come from a partner rather than Samsung directly, and say what drifts. See Galaxy XR prescription.

Questions people ask

Do I need to recalibrate after fitting prescription inserts?

Samsung's guidance for inaccurate aiming after adding inserts is to run eye calibration again and adjust the forehead cushion.

Does someone else using my headset affect eye aiming?

Yes. Samsung says eye aiming calibration is customized to your eyes and should be repeated if another person uses the headset. Run it again when you take it back.

How do I fit the prescription inserts correctly?

Samsung says to match the engraved L and R markers on the lenses with the markers on the headset, insert them into the circular slots, and scan the QR code that comes with the inserts to finish setup.

Which way should I adjust the forehead cushion?

If your eyes are too far from the displays, remove the size adjuster or use a slimmer one. If they are too close, Samsung says to add one or use a thicker one to reduce the risk of eye injury.
