Apple Vision Pro with prescription lenses
Apple offers prescription lenses for Apple Vision Pro but has not published a range.[1]
Vision Pro is a headset, not glasses, and you can't wear your own glasses inside it. Apple's answer is ZEISS Optical Inserts: lenses made to your prescription, or reader strength, that fit inside the headset. They are sold separately. Press at launch in 2024 reported prices from USD 99 for readers and USD 149 for prescription inserts; we have not seen current prices on Apple's specs page. Apple doesn't publish a range on the specs page either. Because the inserts are matched to one person, a shared Vision Pro needs a set per wearer, or a guest goes without. This page covers the M5 model, a reference entry for comparison with Android XR headsets.
How to order
- Have a current prescription from an eye exam ready.
- Order the ZEISS Optical Inserts, which are sold separately from the headset.
- Attach the inserts and complete eye setup on the headset.
Watch out for
- Insert pricing figures in circulation are from 2024 press, not Apple's current pages.
- Each insert pair fits one prescription, so sharing the headset is limited.
- Range details are not on Apple's specs page.
- Vision Pro weighs far more than any glasses here, so it is a sit-down device; inserts fix sight, not weight.
- ZEISS doesn't accept prescriptions with prism values for the inserts, even though Apple says Vision Pro itself supports some prism prescriptions. Raise it before ordering if your prescription lists prism.
Questions people ask
Can I wear glasses inside Apple Vision Pro?
Apple's route for prescription wearers is ZEISS Optical Inserts, sold separately, rather than wearing glasses inside the headset.
How much are Vision Pro prescription inserts?
Press in 2024 reported USD 149 for prescription inserts and USD 99 for readers. We haven't verified current pricing on Apple's pages.
How do ZEISS inserts attach to Vision Pro?
ZEISS says lightweight magnets hold them in place. They press in and lift out by hand, and Apple asks for a valid, unexpired prescription when you order.
